Research opportunities are available for undergraduates interested in the evolutionary genetics of speciation. By combining chemical mutagenesis and whole-genome sequencing , we will be using a novel approach to identifying genes contributing to species differences. Our pilot experiments will focus on behavioral and hybrid rescue genes between closely related Drosophila species. Actual laboratory work will involve classical Drosophila genetics, molecular genetics, bioinformatics and genomics.
